Tybee Island might be a barrier island, but it is closer to the city of Savannah than you think. Tybee Island is only eighteen miles from the center of the city. The island is an excellent place to visit when you are looking for some rest and relaxation. As well as a little adventure!
The Tybee Island Lighthouse is more than one hundred feet tall. You will love seeing the panoramic views, once you reach the top of the stairs. And when you are done at the lighthouse, you must venture over to the museum to check out the history of the lighthouse.
You can learn so much during a visit to the Tybee Marine Science Center. A few of the things you will learn about include the sea turtles, salt marsh, and the animals that live within the marsh. Add in the long walks along the beach and it will be a day you will not forget!
Dolphins are everywhere out in the ocean and many of them are not too far from the sandy shoreline of Tybee Island. You can easily watch these dolphins frolicking in the water from the beach. But I recommend taking a dolphin tour, so you can see them up close. If you want your vacation in Savannah, Georgia to be filled with romance, you may want to consider a sunset cruise too.
If you have never been inside a fort before, you must take the time to explore Fort Pulaski when you are on Tybee Island. Guided tours of the fort are offered, as are different demonstrations. However, if you want to watch the cannons firing, you must visit on a Saturday or a Sunday.
The seafood doesn’t get any fresher than it is on Tybee Island. While there are plenty of places to eat seafood in Savannah, you can’t go wrong with a meal at the Tybee Island Crab Shack. The steamed seafood sampler is the bestseller. The best part about dining at this restaurant though is the fact you can feed the alligators in the lagoon, while sitting amongst the exotic birds.
Long walks on the Tybee Pier are a must when you are on vacation in Savannah, Georgia. Throughout the year, the city also hosts festivals and other events on the pier. Therefore, we will want to check out what is happening in the area during the time of your visit.
This trail is six miles long and follows the old Savannah and Atlantic Railroad line. The railroad and the trail were the only two ways to reach Tybee Island before the highway to the island was constructed. The McQueen’s Island Trail is the perfect way to see the hidden gems of Tybee Island, whether by foot or by bike.
These are seven of the spectacular things to do on Tybee Island. We can easily find many other things for you to do to fill your days when you are on vacation in Savannah, Georgia. Click here to set up a time to chat today, so we can start the planning process. Afterwards, I will create the perfect itinerary that will meet all your vacation needs.
