By now, I’m sure you don’t really need encouragement to go on vacation. At least, I hope not! But you may need to know why you should choose certain vacations over others. Or at least the reasons why you should consider taking a specific vacation like a river cruise or ocean cruise. You may not be aware that river cruising and ocean cruising are completely different. So, even if you have been on an ocean cruise before and didn’t like it, you shouldn’t discount heading out on a river cruise just yet. Today, I am sharing the best reasons to take a river cruise. And what you learn may surprise you.
When you take a river cruise, you have an opportunity to see more of the specific regions you are visiting. You can be in a port of call for the entire day. And that day will be packed with tours and other unique things to do. Imagine visiting attractions, checking out local restaurants, and even heading out on a hike while in port.
What you do is dependent on which port of call you are in. But you definitely won’t miss any of the fascinating things that port of call is known for.
River cruise ships cannot be as massive as ocean cruise ships. After all, they are going through rivers instead of the ocean.
The ships’ smaller size means there will be fewer people on board. And that gives you a more intimate ambiance for the duration of your river cruise. You will get to know some of those people better since they won’t just be a face in the crowd. This is a perfect time to make new friends from around the world!
Are you the type of person who doesn’t think they will do well staring out at the expansive ocean during days at sea? Well, you won’t need to do that when you are on a river cruise.
Instead, you can check out the gorgeous views of the towns, villages, and cities along the riverbanks. That is definitely better than hoping the next port of call is closer than it appears.
Ocean cruise ships often serve the same foods you would find back home. However, when you head out on a river cruise, you will have plenty of opportunities to try the local cuisine. Some of this cuisine can be enjoyed on the ship. But you can have more of the cuisine during culinary tours and other experiences while in port.
Experiencing the local culture and traditions is another plus of going on a river cruise. Imagine meeting with the locals, visiting historical sites, and even joining in on the action during a cultural event when you are in each port of call.
A lot of people won’t go on a cruise because they are afraid they will get seasick. And yes, that could happen on an ocean cruise. It won’t happen on a river cruise though.
River cruise ships rarely hit any waves in a river, because there are none. The only wave that may form in a river will be from a passing speedboat. So, there is literally no chance of you getting seasick while enjoying the adventures you can have on a river cruise.
These are the best reasons to take a river cruise for your next vacation. There are others, but you can share your new favorite reasons with me once you get home!
