Curacao is an island in the Caribbean. It is the largest of all the ABC Islands. There are quite a few things you should know about Curacao before planning a vacation there. A few of those things are covered within the reasons why you should take a vacation in Curacao. Others are noticeable when you start to look into the best things to do in Curacao. However, if you need to understand why you should be contacting me right away to book a vacation in Curacao, keep reading. I am going to cover the main reasons why a vacation in Curacao should be near the top of your list.
Yes, you can visit many destinations in the world to experience diverse cultures. But the culture in Curacao is quite different, thanks to its location and history.
This island was first under Spanish rule. Then the Dutch and British Empire ruled Curacao. The Netherlands finally claimed ownership in 1815. Yet, this island is an independent state. Despite the fact that the locals there carry passports from The Netherlands.
As you are experiencing the culture on this island, you will hear the locals speak numerous languages. It is common to hear English, Spanish, Dutch, and Papiamentu, which is a mix of all three.
Over in the neighborhoods in Otrobanda, you will see numerous buildings covered in beautiful murals. Some of the buildings in Pietermaai have street art too.
You won’t just find art out on the streets in Curacao though. There are quite a few art galleries and museums waiting to be explored on this island.
One of the best places to learn about the Chichi figurine is Serena’s Art Factory. The history behind this figurine is incredible. It is something you will definitely want to learn while visiting Curacao.
Island vacations always mean time spent on gorgeous beaches. And you won’t struggle to find a beach on Curacao. There are thirty-five of them for you to choose from!
One of the best reasons to vacation in Curacao is the opportunity to spend a day, or five, on beaches like Playa Lagun, Playa Porto Mari, or Papagayo Beach.
The fun in Curacao doesn’t end once the sun goes down. You can easily head into a bar to listen to live music. There should be a great bar near your hotel. However, if you really want lots of action, go down to Mambo Beach. The beach is where the best nightlife is on the island.
There are quite a few luxury resorts in Curacao. You won’t need to spend your vacation in a small room, without a view or the amenities you desire while away from home. Plus, many of the best resorts in Curacao are near the beach.
The locals are quite friendly in Curacao. One of the words you will hear the locals use the most is “dushi”. It means nice or sweet. If you hear a local call you “dushi”, they are saying sweetie. It is one of the ways you will know that the locals are happy that you are visiting their beautiful island.
Wildlife is everywhere in Curacao. There are areas where you can see hundreds of flamingos. Sea turtles are in the water at almost every beach. And iguanas can be spotted anywhere you go. You may even find one swimming in your resort’s pool with you!
One of the more unique animals in Curacao though is the pigs. You will find a couple of pigs that live at Playa Porto Marie. These pigs are used to people. And they love to go swimming in the water at this beach.
I wouldn’t get too close to them, since they are wild animals. But it would be neat to get them in a selfie or two with you.
The weather in Curacao is amazing all year round. The temperatures average between the mid-70s and mid-80s. The only time the weather can be considered bad in Curacao is during the rainy season. However, the rain is usually a shower here and there. Not the downpours you may be used to back home.
These are some of the best reasons to vacation in Curacao. You may discover others once you arrive on this island for your vacation. If you do, please let me know, so I can share your reasons with others who may be unsure of whether Curacao is the perfect island vacation destination.
