Do you enjoy spending your time outside of work discovering new hobbies? Or do you like to perfect the hobbies you already do? Well, a river cruise may be the perfect option if you want to combine your hobbies, or a new hobby, with a fabulous vacation. There are quite a few specialty river cruises that offer travelers like yourself the opportunity to learn new hobbies or enhance their skills in their current hobbies. Today, I am going to share some of your hobby options when you decide to go on one of these specialty river cruises. You never know, you may discover a new hobby you never knew you would enjoy! Discovering new hobbies is only one of the reasons to take a river cruise for your next vacation!
Imagine spending your time on a river cruise learning all about European history. One of my favorite historical river cruises is the one that takes you from Paris to the beaches of Normandy.
On this cruise, a World War II expert will share history and stories about the areas where the ship is stopping. Off the ship, you will be able to walk along the beaches in Normandy. This will bring history to life.
Of course, you won’t want to skip wandering around the streets of Paris. While history is abundant there, your focus may be on the food and art instead. The food portion is a new hobby almost everyone will be ready for!
Another historical river cruise is on the Danube. You will learn all about the Austro-Hungarian Empire. And just when you thought you couldn’t possibly learn anything else, you will visit the city palaces, castles, and estates within Budapest and Vienna. That is when you will realize there is so much more history than can be covered in a short week-long cruise.
Jewish heritage has not always been celebrated. Some of the darkest days in history have included people of the Jewish faith. However, a Jewish Heritage River Cruise will allow you to celebrate this heritage, as you sail along the Danube River.
You will stop in numerous historic cities to stroll through the Jewish quarters in each one. A Jewish Heritage expert on the ship will ensure you know the best places to visit at each port of call. Some of those places will include synagogues, cemeteries, monuments, and museums.
Do you love listening to classical music? Do you love playing classical music using an instrument?
If you answered yes to either of those questions, a Classical Music River Cruise will be just what you are looking for!
This river cruise will take you from Budapest to Vienna. Along the way, you will stop in cities that inspired so many musicians throughout the centuries. You will see where some of these musicians lived. Or where they composed their work. The best stops though will be where each musician performed.
Some of your favorite stops will include the Budapest Opera House, Mozart Birth House, and the Melk Abbey. Oh, and you won’t want to miss the Coronation City walking tour in Bratislava. Live music will be playing at different stops.
Turning classical music into your new hobby can result in more relaxing moments when you get back home!
Photography is an art form. If you have been wanting to perfect your photography skills, this river cruise will allow you to do just that. Pro-photographer, Brenda Tharp, will be your on-ship expert. She will share many of her photography tips and tricks. They are the same ones she has used to get her photographs in national magazines and books.
She will also join you at certain destinations. This will allow you to learn which angles and lenses to use, as well as so much more, for every picture you take. Almost everyone wants to take up photography as a new hobby. So, don’t let this chance to make it happen slip away.
Garden lovers will be ready to explore nature on this river cruise. The best time to take this river cruise is during the spring. Since the ship will take you through Holland and Belgium, you will want to be cruising while the tulips are in bloom.
You will learn quite a bit about gardening while on the ship. But it is what you learn from the gardens themselves that will make this a dream vacation.
Imagine wandering through the Keukenhof Gardens in Rotterdam. Watching the windmills go round and round amongst the fields of tulips in Amsterdam. And visiting the largest flower auction in the world. It’s all possible during a Garden and Nature River Cruise.
If you can’t get enough time on the golf course, this river cruise will solve your dilemma. Time on this ship will have you spending your time off golfing on some of the best golf courses in the world.
Every day, you will disembark the ship and play a round or two at a golf course. At night, you will board the ship and sleep in your luxurious room. The best part is your tee time is arranged for you. And your golf cart and practice balls will be waiting. Your golf clubs will even be cleaned in between rounds.
The golf courses you will be playing on include:
