Nuremberg is a medieval city filled with history. Many of Germany’s cities are considered hot spots for tourists. However, Nuremberg is closer to the top of that list. It is the perfect option for a day trip when staying in Munich. And it is a better option if you want to spend a couple days within the actual city. My favorite time to visit Nuremberg is during the holiday season. There are extra events happening at that time of the year. Plus, you can add this city into a day’s adventure when you are taking a Christmas river cruise in Germany.
Nuremberg Castle is always at the top of the list when it comes to attractions to visit in Nuremberg. This is one of the most important medieval fortresses in Europe. One of the best ways to see this castle is during a walking tour of the city.
If you are interested in seeing the inside of Nuremberg Castle, you can take a guided, or self-guided, tour. Keep in mind, if you want to see the Deep Well at the Well House, you must take a guided tour. They won’t let anyone near the fifty-meter well without supervision.
One of the easiest ways to see, and experience, the history and culture of Nuremberg is to visit the Museum of Industrial Culture. This museum focuses on the industrial past of this city. Inside, you can see exhibits filled with old machinery, manufactured goods, domestic appliances, and vehicles.
The Motorcycle Museum is also within the Museum of Industrial Culture. The motorcycle industry began within this city in 1901 and continues to this day.
If you happen to love art, or are traveling with someone who does, a visit to the Neues Museum Nürnberg is a must. This museum is filled with modern and contemporary art exhibits. The works of art are from the 1950s until today.
In addition to the regular artwork, you can see numerous temporary exhibits every time you visit. You may even find yourself taking advantage of a workshop, lecture, or concert being held while you are there.
Another art lover’s dream destination is Albrecht Dürer’s House. This house was where Dürer spent his time creating works of art from 1509 until he died in 1528. His house is now a museum. Inside, there are displays of his works of art. You can also see a reproduction of his workshop and authentic period furniture.
One of the best things about traveling as an adult is reliving your childhood. The Toy Museum in Nuremberg is an excellent way to do that! Inside this museum, you will discover toys that date back to the medieval times.
You can purchase a toy or two inside the on-site toy store. Just make sure you leave a little time to explore the labyrinth out near the play area.
The Haupmarkt in Nurmberg is also called the Main Market. This is the city center filled with a fountain, decorations, and figures. I love wandering around this area during the holiday season. This is when Haupmarkt turns in Nuremberg’s Christmas Market.
The Nürnberg Christkindlesmarkt is held for two weeks every year. Lights shine brightly at night. People can be seen surrounding the stands selling gifts, ornaments, and local foods. And the festivities add a little extra to the ambiance.
These are the best attractions to visit in Nuremberg, Germany for your next vacation. Of course, there are many other places you can visit in this beautiful city. I can share them all with you as I am planning your vacation in Germany. Whether you choose a relaxing Christmas river cruise in Germany or decide to stay on land, I have the perfect vacation options that will fulfill your needs.
