Have you been dreaming about a romantic Hawaiian vacation? But can’t decide which Hawaiian Island to visit? Let me recommend Kauai! This tranquil island was formed six million years ago. It is the oldest island. Kauai’s nickname is the Garden Island. This is due to it being so lush with numerous shades of green. It is definitely the perfect spot for unwinding, rekindling the spark in your love life, and embracing the fact you can vacation together, alone, once again. If you do choose to take a romantic vacation on this island, I recommend exploring all five areas of Kauai. Each area offers something more beautiful than all the others.
Okay, so there are five areas on the island of Kauai. These areas are:
You could easily spend all your romantic vacation in one of these areas. However, you would miss out on so much of the beauty, and fun, the other areas of Kauai have to offer!
Today, I am going to share a little about each area of Kauai. And why you must take the time to explore each area during your next romantic vacation.
Along the North Shore of Kauai, you will discover lush taro fields, sandy beaches, and massive mountains and cliffs. Within your first few minutes of being on the North Shore, you will decide you never want your romantic vacation in Kauai to end.
Imagine talking long strolls on one of the best beaches in Kauai. Selfies can be taken on the beach where South Pacific was filmed. Maybe act like kids again by building sandcastles on Kē’ē Beach.
The Daniel K Inouye Kilauea Point Lighthouse is the perfect spot for picnics or drinks at sunset. Visit during the winter months to watch the whales out in the water.
You can shop and dine in Hanalei Town. Just make sure you take the time to visit the lush taro fields.
The one must-see destination on the North Shore that you cannot miss is the Na Pali Coast. This seventeen-mile stretch of shoreline is a natural wonder that should always be at the top of your list. You can rekindle the romance as you hike to waterfalls and sea caves.
Groves of coconut trees grow throughout the East Side of Kauai. The multitude of coconut trees has earned this area of Kauai the nickname of the Royal Coconut Coast. Amongst all those trees are destinations you won’t want to miss during your Kauai vacation.
Wailua River State Park is an excellent place to start to learn about this area. Enjoy the views at Opaeka’a Falls. Check out Nounou Mountain to see who can spot the Sleeping Giant first. You can even kayak along the Wailua River or go to the Fern Grotto by boat.
Snorkeling in the lava rock enclosed pools at Lydgate Beach Park is always fun. Just keep in mind families love those ocean pools too. So, you may want to check that off your list early in the day to avoid the crowds.
The West Side of Kauai is full of small towns, historic sites, and amazing natural wonders. You will want to stay for a couple days to squeeze it all in.
Waimea Canyon should be at the top of your list. It is considered the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. You can hike any of the trails to check out the huge valleys that seem to dive deep into the Earth’s surface.
If you are searching for a more low-key experience, head over to Kalalau Lookout or Pu’u o Kila Lookout. Enjoy a picnic with incredible views in the distance.
To escape the wilderness, simply head into the towns of Waimea or Hanapepe. The latter is the best place for shopping and exploring art galleries.
Romance is everywhere on the South Shore of Kauai. Candlelit dinners in a restaurant or at your accommodations are a must. If your room has views of the ocean (which it should!) sit out on the lanai and watch the monk seals and sea turtles amongst the waves. This is an excellent place to watch the sunrise or sunset too.
Oh, and during the winter months, whales will be everywhere in the ocean waters.
You can get your coffee fix at Kauai Coffee Plantation. Old Koloa Town is the perfect place to mingle with the locals and make new friends.
The main airport on the island is located in Lihu’e, so you will spend a little time here during your romantic vacation in Kauai. This area of Kauai can be quite crowded. Especially with those tourists who don’t venture too far once they get off the plane.
Yes, you can visit museums here. Yes, you can swim, bodysurf, and so much more out in the ocean. And yes, you can experience the history of the island.
However, it is not the place you want to spend your entire romantic vacation in Kauai!
These are the five areas of Kauai. Hopefully, you can see why you should explore them all during your next romantic vacation. Don’t worry, I will share more reasons, as well as other things you can do during your visit, when I begin planning your Hawaiian Island vacation.
