Have you always wanted to try all the different foods available around the world? Are you slowly accomplishing this goal with every new vacation you take? Well, if you are considering a Christmas river cruise in Germany, I have a list of the best foods you must try. Some of these foods in Germany are only available during the holiday season. That makes a Christmas river cruise the best time to try those foods and all the others this country is known for.
Candied almonds can be really expensive, but they are worth the splurge. One bite and I guarantee you will be hooked on these sweet nuts for life! While the basic candied almonds are delicious, you may want to try the other flavors as well.
We all know that counting calories doesn’t happen while on a cruise. Well, a Christmas river cruise in Germany follows those same rules. However, if you are trying to behave, roasted chestnuts can be slightly better for you than the candied almonds I mentioned above.
I recommend eating the chestnuts while they are still hot. They are much easier to peel then. And if you can’t eat them all before they get cold, don’t worry. It might be more work to peel them, but they still taste yummy.
German potato pancakes are normally served with applesauce. Yet, they are a finger food, so eating them can get a little messy. They taste delicious though, so simply grab a couple extra napkins.
Lángos are one of the most popular Christmas market delicacies in Germany. It is a fried Hungarian dough that is topped with ingredients you choose. Most people choose to top their lángos with either ham or cheese.
I am sure you have heard about bratwurst, which is a traditional German sausage. There are always sausage stands at the local Christmas markets in Germany. So, be prepared to try a few different sausages during your visit. Oh, and if you love spice, consider trying the Feuerwurst. It is the spicy version of bratwurst.
Gluhwein is not a food, but it is one of the best drinks to try during a Christmas river cruise in Germany. It is a hot mulled wine complete with spices. Basically, you are drinking Christmas in a cup when you have Gluhwein.
Eierpunsch is another Christmas drink in Germany. It is made from egg yolks, white wine, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, and citrus juice. This drink is topped with whipped cream.
One of the best foods to eat in Germany for dessert is dampfnudel. It is fluffy bread topped with cinnamon before being soaked in vanilla sauce.
Stollen is one of the more traditional German foods at Christmas. It is basically a fruitcake filled with spices, nuts, and fruit.
These are the best foods to eat during a Christmas river cruise in Germany. Or any other time you are enjoying a romantic vacation in Germany.
